Cape Coral is a young city, especially when measured with European standards. In 1957 the "Gulf American Land Corporation" was founded, which proceeded to turn the land owned by brothers Leonard and Jack Rosen north of the Caloosahatchee River into a "Waterfront Wonderland." Marsh land and pastures were divided by streets and canals. Overall, Cape Coral offers 400 miles of canals, some with access to the Gulf of Mexico, and 1,700 miles of paved roads. The first homes were built in 1958. Due to an aggressive marketing campaign, the city was growing fast. In 1964 the Cape Coral Bridge opened, connecting the city with Fort Myers.  A second bridge, the " Midpoint Memorial Bridge" was finished in 1997 and is being extended to meet Burnt Store Road & Pine Island Road.

Southwest Florida Luxury Real Estate in beautiful Cape Coral

The oldest part of Cape Coral, the Yacht Club area in the southeast, was built in the 1960s. Other areas followed: the so-called "Gold Coast" in the East, the "Pelican Area" in the South. Nowadays there is a lot of construction going on in the Southwest. The most popular - and the most expensive - properties are located on the water, preferably with Gulf access. Property in the north sells for much less and the area is sparsely populated. If you are interested in purchasing real estate in Cape Coral, you should always work together with a licensed Realtor in order to learn more about the market and to avoid paying prices that are unjustifiably high.

Right now the city has over 100,000 inhabitants and during the winter months, thanks to the tourists and snowbirds from the north, another 17,000 +/- more. Cape Coral is a city to live in comfortably. The crime rate is low and the quality of living high, especially on one of the numerous canals, offering views on water and palm trees. That's Florida!

Cape Coral offers excellent restaurants, a water fun park with the appropriate name "Sun Splash," shopping centers, parks, tennis courts, and golf courses. The proximity to Fort Myers enables Cape Coral residents to enjoy the restaurants, movie theaters, and shopping malls there as well. Sanibel Island with its shells, Naples with its great shopping malls, and Tampa and Orlando with their tourist attractions are not far away.
